Athens Mutual Aid Network & the Front Porch Food Pantry, Little Free Library, Children's Books Shelf, and WIFI Hotspot

On its Food Access tab Athens Mutual Aid Network has posted a small blurb about the Front Porch Food Pantry at #3 Railroad Street in Arnoldsville, GA.  AMAN is a resource for people seeking assistance with food aid, rent assistance, jobs, education resources, domestic violence prevention, healthcare, and a  myriad of other programs. AMAN also connects volunteers and donors to organizations and private efforts like ours.

from the AMAN site:

Located at the crossroads in Arnoldsville, a small town without a stop light, it's centrally located on the road that runs through Winterville, Arnoldsville, and Crawford. Number 3 Railroad St. is hard to miss. It's the big red building at the crossroads.

"Our policy is Donate what you can. Take what you need. Because it's open 24/7, we feel it might be easier for some folks who may be reluctant to go to a regular food bank or just don't have time. Further, there's no screening process, no long lines, just an old fashioned front porch waiting for visitors to stop by."

This is the type of publicity we need to sustain the flow between donors and recipients. Further, this is the type of news that needs to be shared right now. Our government at the federal, state, and local levels either can not or will not step up to meet the needs of its citizens at this time of national and global crisis. This leaves the average citizen to step in to fill the gaps. More than ever, neighbors helping neighbors is what we need now. I hope that the actions of two people in a small rural community can inspire people to look at their own communities and decide what they can contribute.
