Painting over an old canvas

Painted over an old canvas today. I painted because I thought I should, not because I was inspired. It was a mistake but, hey, I tried.
Today's attempt at painting

My canvases are stacking up. Looking back over them, I see so many flaws. The ones I like are sold, given away, or hung in my own home. This looked like one for the recycle pile.

When I went back to look at the canvas I had painted over, I found I'd posted a picture when it was painted in February. (I photograph everything but don't post everything.) It was originally created out of Pure Spontaneity. There was no obligation to paint.

At the time I wrote about that painting:
Pure spontaneity led to this JMW Turner inspired piece. I can not begin to compare myself to Turner but his work above any other artist serves to set the tone for my most spontaneous pieces. Unlike other Turner inspired pieces, I did not attempt to recreate his work. And I did not use a photo to lead me. I just started layering, returning to the canvas after it dried.
B A Ash. After J M W T. 2022. Acrylic on Canvas. 11 x 14 inches (NOW PAINTED OVER)

I was dissatisfied with the February canvas, especially the lower half and even cropped it using photo shop.

If JMW Turner inspired that one then I was left mouth agape at my initial response to today's painting: "Oh god, a Bob Ross!" Maybe it wasn't that deliberate, but it certainly felt that half ass.

Well, I fulfilled my obligation to paint and now I might draw or work on another project because quite frankly, I'm feeling rather uninspired to create using paint these days. It feels more like a chore than a release for creativity.
