DAY 23:

Update from BIL on my sister in ICU on a ventilator.

Today has been another up and down day. We were looking forward to more improvement.  This morning we had a call that she had air in between her lungs wall.  They installed a tube to drain the air. Good news that there is no air coming out at the moment. Bad ness it is another set back.  Spoke with the Dr and they are worried.  I continue to believe she will come through this. All her vitals are good. Heart and kidneys are in good shape. They did turn her oxygen back up but she is saturating well.  I will update you if I hear more.

Best guess is that it might be pneumomediastinum which can occur with ventilators. But I also found cases that arose in SARS patients and naturally in Covid patients, not on a ventilator. Too little data at this juncture. Wonder if the pressure adjustments come with this risk? Have they removed the tube from her mouth and replaced it with a trachea tube yet? Given the length of time she's been under, that is the next step as the first tube must be removed.

My other thought is that my BIL is a fucking moron not just for refusing the Covid vaccine but also because he is so fucking optimistic. If she survives, he has no fucking clue what a long road to recovery she will have or that she may not fully recover.

It makes us sick that all of this could have been avoided with a free shot.
