Life without the Covid Vaccine: Day 37 on a ventilator in ICU

Day 37 and my sister is still alive. Her lung collapsed last week and they called the family in. By the time they drove in from Danielsville to Piedmont Athens, a surgeon had stepped in to clear the lung and add larger tubes. She isn't getting better. They can't seem to reduce her oxygen and her lungs are in bad shape. She is holding around 75% oxygen level received from the ventilator while her blood oxygen level is in the safe range. That level is the best they've been able to maintain. Somewhere under 30% is what they aim for to remove her from the ventilator. The family friend we lost in August was on a ventilator for 6 weeks when an infection set in and his kidneys failed. She is at 5 weeks and 2 days on an ICU ventilator.

This is my favorite picture of my sister and me.
This is how I will always think of her: little, tagging along.
