That $2 thrifted container

The new $2 thrift store container at center is now home to my split red lentils (Center).
For things like rice that come with cooking instructions on the bag, clip the info from the plastic bag, dampen the back of the plastic, and rub onto the back of the jar. My MaeMae used to cut out bird pictures from the bird seed bags and adorn the frig in the same way. Paper instructions can just be taped on or stuck inside with the grains.
No fancy labels for me either. Brown wrapping tape and a sharpie is all I need to relabel when needed. Cheap and multi purpose, I always keep both supplies on hand.

I love the Golden Harvest brand of containers for ease of use, weight, and plastic tops which seal well and never rust. Used, the prices online range from 8.00-35.00USD. $2 for a quart size container is a great deal and is something I'm always looking for at thrift store prices. Ideally, I'd had all GH jars but for now, most of the pantry dry goods are in reused food jars.

I decant dry goods which are more than single use, in bags or boxes, and will stay for a month or more in the pantry. We live on several acres in a relatively rural area with neighbors who also have multi-acre homesteads. We have forests on two sides and across the road. The fourth side is a hill leading to a wooded creek area. We have lots of free range critters including field mice. The food that is on open shelves and not behind doors must be protected from the wild wee beasties.
